Born and raised in Hannover, Germany, Jan started drumming at the age of 12. His first musical influences were Nirvana, Bob Dylan and The Beatles, which formed the base for his powerful, yet always song oriented playing. He was soon recognized by the local music scene and joined the rockband “Mellow Sirens” for their national debut. At the age of 19 he was already touring Germany, playing high-profile events like "Rock am Ring" and "Hurricane" festival and 2 national tours. In 2000 he moved to Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to study drums at the Conservatoire of Rotterdam (Codarts) where he graduated in 2004. Over the last 15 years Jan has worked with many national and international producers and artists such as Mike Garson (David Bowie/Nine Inch Nails), George Kooymans (Golden Earring) and Colin Benders (Kyteman).

In spring 2017 Pohl will tour France with his electro-pop grunge band “22 Below”. They will be special guest with Suicidal Tendencies. 22Below will also release 2 singles worldwide this year followed by their debut record.

Since 2010 Jan is the backbone of Austin, Texas based
artist Patricia Vonne since 2010. In the last 6 years they hundreds of shows all over Europe including the famous “Montreux Jazz Festival” in Switzerland.
In 2015 Jan will hit the touring road again. This time with legendary guitar player David Grissom (e.g. Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Robert Plant, The Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow, John Mellencamp, Joe Ely, Storyville,The Allman Brothers Band, The Dixie Chicks, Chris Isaak, Robben Ford and many more).
He played over 35 shows with Grissom and Eric Johnson’s Chris Marsh on bass in Germany, Norway, Denmark, the UK, Switzerland, Italy and the Benelux.
In 2014 he recorded Judy Blank’s debut-album “When the storm hits”. The album was released at the “North Sea Jazz Festival” in Rotterdam followed by many other summer Dutch festivals such as “Lowlands”, “Songbird” and “3FM Serious Request”. Jan also performed with the 19-year-old singer/songwriter during her 1st clubtour from September until November all over The Netherlands.

Alongside with his work as a drummer Jan is always searching for a way to improving his sound he has designed his own, handmade “Punk Rods” (, which he is also producing and selling in selected drumshops all over The Netherlands and online.
